What is Nursing?

Nursing is the art and technique of ameliorating the healthcare journey of a patient. It is the most basic healthcare requirement for every healthcare set-up, hospitals, intensive care units, emergency care facilities, casualty units, diagnostic centers, etc. Nursing is a demanding job that requires you to not only understand and apply medical care techniques to help improve a medical condition but also inherently possess qualities such as care and compassion to support a patient’s will to recover. Nursing as an occupation has evolved through many stages. As medical science developed nursing became an inextricable part of it and flourished into a different branch of healthcare science. The scope of this branch depends solely on which healthcare facility a nurse works for. For example, pediatric nursing highly differs from emergency care nursing. Every nurse will have a specific strength, passion, and expertise due to the vast range of specialisms and complex skills involved in the nursing profession. Nurses are typically expected to integrate objective medical data with the subjective experience of a patient’s biological, physical and behavioral needs with their judgment and critical thinking. In any country, nurses are required to undergo a rigorous program of extensive education, study and practicals as they have to assist doctors and patients thereby maintaining the doctor-patient relationship for a suitable healthcare regimen and better treatment outcomes. Nurses work tirelessly and play an indispensable role in safeguarding public health by maintaining high medical care standards and well-being.
