How many sections are in the GRE?
GRE has following three sections
#1 Verbal Reasoning:
The Verbal Reasoning section measures your ability to
- Analyze and draw inferences from discourse; reason from incomplete data; identify and analyze author's viewpoints, perceptions and assumptions; comprehend various levels of meaning like literal, figurative and author's intent
- Select important points; differentiate main from minor or relevant points; summarize text; comprehend the organization and structure of the text
- Comprehend and analyze the intent and meaning of words, sentences and entire texts; understand and analyses relationships among words and among concepts
#2 Quantitative Reasoning:
The Quantitative Reasoning section measures your ability to:
- Understand, deduce and analyze quantitative information then solve problems using mathematical models
- Apply the elementary skills and fundamental concepts of arithmetic, algebra, geometry and data analysis
- You can use the on-screen calculator in the Quantitative Reasoning section during the computer-delivered test. In case of the paper-delivered test, the test center will provide a calculator.
#3 Analytical Writing:
The Analytical Writing section measures your ability to:
- Articulate complex ideas clearly and effectively
- Support ideas with relevant details, causes, reasons and examples
- Study, examine and analyze claims and accompanying evidence
- Organize and put-up a well-focused, rational and coherent discussion
- Utilize optimally the elements of standard written English in a controlled manner
The Analytical Writing section requires you to provide focused responses based on the tasks presented, so you can accurately demonstrate your skill in directly responding to a task.
