While growing up I read many books on the oil war and international relations. I was amazed to realize that one liquid can be so important; hence, it is called the “black gold”. My interest in petroleum was evoked with the knowledge of how a commodity just like any other can decide our world’s fate. Hence, I was intrigued to work in the petroleum field and as a Chemical Engineer, I was fortunate to understand the molecular structure and formation of crude oil. I developed a deep interest to study petroleum engineering while pursuing my Bachelor’s in Chemical Engineering. With my experience in the Chemical industry, I am totally convinced that my profile is suitable for pursuing a Master’s in Petroleum Engineering and strengthen my technical skills in this vast field. The growing scope Petroleum Engineering offers makes me confident about building a successful career around it in the next few years.

Academic Background:

As I started my undergraduate studies in Chemical Engineering at the Institue of Chemical Technology (ICT), Mumbai. I was motivated throughout the course as I excelled in practicals, laboratory work and was able to achieve distinguished grades in exams. My most favorite subjects in Petroleum Engineering were Thermodynamics, Fluid Mechanics, and Innovation & Product Engineering, and Mass Transfer Operations. My final year project was titled, ‘’Designing a Crude Oil-drilling Process’’. The project aimed at achieving (technical details of project)…………… The project was a turning point for me to make crucial career decisions and propelled me to pursue advanced studies.

On joining Essar Oil Ltd in 2016 as a Junior Production Engineer, I worked extensively in many parts of India for 4 years. In 2018, I was promoted to Senior Reservior Engineer on a project in Karnataka. I am responsible for maximizing well productivity and rig-less activities, well integrity analysis. I have to maintain well integrity efficiently in unconventional and conventional sectors and carried out production optimization. I also provided technical support to all the oil and gas well activities. My major role was to actively expand oil and gas programs, including production surveillance, well completions, well intervention, safe operations, and implementing new technologies.

I also delivered training on various projects across India. The training was regarding the application of the equation of states and other empirical formulae to find the properties of hydrocarbon fluid inside the reservoir, which had to be extracted. I worked with accomplished personalities because of whom my performance only ameliorated and my competence was noticed by the senior management.

My non-academic interests had a huge part to play in my personality development. I have been participating in Gymnastics since my school days. I have won a Silver medal in the State Level Gymnastics Competition. I also organized many events, workshops, and training sessions for new Gymnastics enthusiasts in my residential complex, and college. I coached children between the ages of 5 to 12 for Level 1 and 2 Gymnastics. One of my most enjoyable hobbies was learning Karate and Martial Arts for 4 years in high school. I believe fitness activities are a must for our wellbeing and I spend most of my leisure time in outdoor games.

Crude oil is one of the most important resources in today’s time and almost all countries are starving for petroleum due to high prices and lack of sufficient production. Also, I understand that there is more oil still to be recovered than found. This shows how important a discipline this is and how vast is the scope of development. By associating with the petroleum industry, I can contribute my bit to help bridge this gap and serve humankind. A master’s degree from the prestigious University of ……………………would most certainly help me achieve my goals in life. I want to specifically work on mega-oil and petroleum refining projects in the less explored countries and regions including all the water-bodies in the world. I am also keenly interested in conducting research on Isomerization and reforming.

The University of ....................., with its focus on ‘research driving innovation’ will help me build a very strong base for research because of which I’ll be able to venture into high tech research and thus quench my thirst for it. I find Prof. Frank Korf’s work on I believe my strong fundamentals and conviction for research will help me get to the very core of my research problem and succeed in getting solutions to the problem. I hope that my application will be considered favorably. The guidance of the top-notch faculty in the department will help me excel in all ways possible and make me an extremely competitive individual. Being part of a university with such a diverse population of students will give me the much needed international exposure. Thus a graduate degree from the highly respected the University of ..................... will help me create a perfect platform to realize my dreams.

Petroleum engineers work hand in hand to find and then extract oil for use by mankind. I hope, one day I will be able to work on the most for extraction. I also wish to publish papers and books with him. Another factor that lures me towards the petroleum industry is the fact that I will be able to have a bright and lucrative career while doing something which I am so passionate about.

The United States of America is the capital of petroleum technology. Studying in the petroleum department of your school will give me a wide range of opportunities, exposure, and prospects. These consequently will improve the grasp and understanding of the subject and help me deliver more to the field.
