VISA FORMALITIES FOR STUDYING IN MALAYSIA

 

  • International students need a Malaysian student visa to pursue higher education in Malaysia. Students from foreign countries need to acquire a pass specifying the purpose of their travel. Malaysia student visa and Malaysia student pass are terms that are often used differently but have the same meaning. 

  • The visa application and process are mostly handled by the University of the Student. However, there are other ways too to go through the visa process. The Malaysian visa application process should be initiated before three months of course commencement. 

  • The Malaysian student visa has a validity of 12 months and must be renewed six weeks before the visa expiry date. The visa fee for single and multiple entries and transit visa is RM 20 for most countries. For other countries like Argentina, Costa Rica, Czech Republic, India (RM 50), Bulgaria, Brazil, Italy, Israel, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, Sri Lanka, etc the visa fees range from RM 10 to RM 50. 

  • Types of Malaysia Student pass:-

- Foreigner in Government/private schools

- Foreigner at public higher education institutes

- Foreigner at private higher education institutes/training centers

- Foreigner in language centers 

- Holder of dependent pass

 

  • Steps to get Malaysian Student visa:-

  1. Applying for the visa

- You can apply online directly through the Education Malaysia Website https://educationmalaysia.gov.my/ only of you have to offer letters to Public universities and private institutions.

 

- If you can’t apply directly you can apply through the university/institution. After following the required procedure, the application will be submitted by the university to the Director of Pass and Permit Division of Malaysia. This will start the process of your Visa Approval Letter (VAL). Your passport must have validity for more than one year.  

 

  1. Checking the status – Accepted/Not accepted

Within a week, you will be informed about the application status of your chosen university. 

 

  1. Required documents submission

You need to mail the following documents to the specified office. 

- Student Visa Application

- Offer letter specifying acceptance from the chosen university

- Photocopies of your passport – 2 copies

- Passport-sized photos – 2

- Academic transcripts and scorecards (PTE, IELTS, TOEFL, CAE, MUET) 

- Proof of available funds and other living expenses

- Health certificate

- NOC for Sudan students

- Letter of Eligibility for Iran students

 

  1. Indicating the University about travel month, date, etc.

You must inform the university about your arrival and provide them with date, time, and flight details. The university will provide pick-up, guidance, and other required facilities after your arrival.

 

  1. Student visa sticker

You will have to submit your passport to the Immigration Department within two weeks. After this, a student visa sticker will be granted to you.

 

 

  • Medical Screenings for international students

 

- As a new international student, you have to do a medical screening at a panel clinic within seven days of your arrival.

- International students applying for visa renewal do not have to attend any medical screening inside the country. Also, for some countries, a yellow fever certificate is needed.

- If any international student wants to change her/his course or institution, then the student has to go through a medical screening if it was last done before 90 days.
