Program Description

- The students who have a curiosity about geologic hazards, the evolution of the Earth, and knowing what’s underneath the land will find tremendous interest to pursue this degree.

- The program’s duration is generally 4 years and is filled with laboratory experience, field-work, and computer programs that provide support to reveal secrets of the Earth’s foundation.

- You will basically study Earth and the forces acting upon it including the study of various sciences which will include biology, physics, and chemistry. You will also gain unique experiences of visiting local, regional, and national sites which would have a considerable amount of geological importance.

- Initially, you will learn the basics of geology which include how to analyze rocks, fossils, and minerals and also cover topics like plate tectonics and theories related to the surface of the Earth.

- The program develops reasoning and analytical skills which are useful for the students in personal as well as professional lives.

Eligibility

- The applicant must have passed his/her 12th (10+2) from a recognized university.

- The applicant must obtain marks above 70 or an average GPA of 2.5 or above in his/her 12th examination. However, this requirement is not mandatory and is demanded only by some selected universities.

- Recommended courses include 4 years of English and 4 years of Mathematics to the level of calculus. 1 year each recommended for Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.

- SAT/ACT or TOEFL or IELTS scores: The score level differs from each university and it is not required in all the universities. However, it is recommended for a non-native English speaker.

- Students take courses in Mineralogy, Petrology, Stratigraphy, and Structural geology through which they can study exactly suits their interests.

- Students also have the option to combine geology with engineering courses which eventually provide them a dual degree in programs like Mining Engineering and Geology.

- Students will study basic geology courses like Introduction to Earth and Planetary science, Introductions to structural geology, and field geology.
