Do I need to know German language to study in German?

#Yes, if you want to study in Germany, knowledge of German language is mandatory.

To survive in Germany, it is important to possess good German Language skills. Even if your desired course is taught completely in English, it is advised to have a minimum of A2 Language Certification according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CERF). The 6 CERF levels are A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, and C2 in the increasing order of proficiency. The minimum of elementary level A2 will help the prospective student to get part-time work, it will also help them in their day-to-day life in Germany. If the students wish to stay back post their studies for work, higher proficiency levels are suggested. One could take the TestDaF (Test Deutsch als Fremdsprache) or the DSH (Deutsche Sprachprüfung für den Hochschulzugang) tests to get their language proficiency level (Note: DSH can only be taken in Germany). The scores from these tests place one on levels from B2-C1. Goethe Institut is one that offers exams targeted at each of the six levels. Goethe-Zertifikat A1: Start Deutsch 1 for the A1 level and so on. All of these exams are recognized worldwide and will boost the chances of the students getting into their dream university.
