10 PLACES TO EAT IN BERLIN

-        Grill Royal

Grill Royal is a popular dining place in Berlin and one should visit this restaurant on their trip to the city. This stylish, friendly, and meaty venue is open on all days of the week and serves heavenly meals along with delicious desserts. Vegetarians may get disappointed here but steaks and seafood lovers would be delighted. The meat for the dishes is brought from local suppliers and Argentina, Ireland, and Australia. Also, you need a reservation to eat at Grill Royal.

-        Coda

Michelin star holder in 2019, Coda offers a menu that entirely consists of desserts and drinks. The star chef Rene Frank uses fresh ingredients and serves with artfully arranged plates and gives importance to the experimental. Visit Coda for the ruptured six-course tasting menu which combines desserts with drinks and also get to the bar for a superlative cocktail. Drinks may start from EUR98.

-        Nobelhart & Schmutzig

The restaurant is a fine dining food place that colonized the local, sustainable food movement in Berlin. Hence, also has a tagline ‘vocally local’ which means they don’t import food from outside the capital and surroundings. The setup seems special and interesting so that you can sip your organic wine poured from the German vineyard’s unique last stock. Chef Billy Wagner will impress you with his use of neglected traditional methods to serve a seasonally shifting menu. There is single long table seating that involves 28 seats around an open kitchen making one a relaxed and one of its kind dining spot.

-         Shaam

Shaam is a popular shawarma place on Karl-Marx-Strabe. It is a popular spot and is known for the delicious and irresistible garlicky toum sauce. The sauce casts the perfect brio to the shawarma’s delightful blend of crispy bread and fatty meat. There are also various lighter and vegetarian options but everything is served with crunchy fresh veg to dip. You can also order a few plates to share.

-        Rogacki

Rogacki is a legendary deli that originates back from the 1930s and serves some fine meats, charcuterie, and smoked seafood in West Berlin. Come here and experience a quick lunch of German sausage and smoked freshwater trout and eel that are freshly brought from the lakes surrounding the city. Other servings include cheese, salads, and warm traditional German dishes. On weekdays you can also go for breakfast or late afternoon meal to avoid the lunch crowd.

-        Burgermeister

Surprisingly, this small burger point was initially a public bathroom located under the Schlesisches Tor train station. However, for many years Burgermeister continues to follow Germany’s strict health code standards. The burgers are simple and cheap yet astonishing along with cheesy fries and mouthwatering vegan burgers. Here, you will find only outdoor seating but Burgermeister serves at two more locations (Kottbusser Tor and Zoologischer Garten) that are indoors and less crowded.

-        Kin Dee

Kin Dee, your search for Berlin’s best Thai restaurant will possibly end where every plate looks like a work of art. The menu consists of German ingredients prepared in Thai styles like curries and stir-fries with trademark dishes like the octopus krapao and green beef curry. The four-course menu is $60 that includes 8-10 shared dishes that manage to make you comfortable, satisfying, and casual. Chef Salad Kambhu received a Michelin star in 2019 that makes her the youngest woman to earn such an honor in Germany.

-        Malakeh

Malakeh’s owner Malakeh Jazmati has no proper kitchen training but her interesting origin story started with a following as Syrian TV personality Maliket al-Tabkh – meaning Queen of Cooking. She serves mouth-watering Syrian cuisine with excellent kibbeh in a yogurt sauce, moreish fried aubergine, and some city’s raw tomatoes. As she left her country with her husband due to the war, she has decorated her restaurant with pictures of Syrian artists and activists as a reminder of her home.

-        Horvath

Horvath will give you a high-end, unique but expensive meal with posh historic, wood-paneled, and light-filled space. Of course, the menu is modern but added with traditional Austrian dishes like venison schnitzel wrapped in the coffee-herb sauce. Austrian wine is a great add-on to the already superb meal. But the non-alcoholic drinks are interesting with a mixture of vegetables, oil, and tea reductions that can be ordered even with the wine.

-        Khao Taan

Everything served at the Khao Taan, owned by former lawyer Gaan, will make you feel earnest and fresh with a family-style eating experience. You can surely have a quick Thai curry cheaply available around the corner, but a ride at Khao Taan on the S-Bahn is worth taking. The serving is EUR35 per head with a table having a fixed set of dishes to guide guests with the flavors and textures along with introducing dining norms of Thai culture. Don’t forget to order the fish curry.
