Do Ph.D. students in Japan receive stipends?
The tuition costs might be lower compared to other countries but still, a student pays for his Ph.D. in Japan. However, stipend in the form of government funding is available for Ph.D. students like the famous MEXT scholarships which cover university fees, return airfare, and a monthly grant of 143,000 JYN and JSPS Gakushin DC fellowship, funded by the Japanese government which provides a monthly stipend to limited Ph.D. students.
