Statistics are a part of everyday life in Japan because it's a country where population trends, housing, health, and spending patterns are monitored daily. I decided to study statistics in Japan because it would be a great opportunity for me. I enjoy statistical analysis and I wanted to become a statistician. It is hard to find work in Japan, but I still did research on what type of jobs exist in the United States for statisticians and other people who do statistical analysis. There are positions available with KPMG, Boston Consulting Group, and Google. As a recent college graduate, job opportunities are scarce. Fortunately, this situation is changing in Japan due to several factors. The country's aging population has contributed to growing demand for healthcare as well as the manufacturing sector. This has led to an increase in the need for statistical officers and economists who can help forecast future trends.

 

Salary negotiations

 

In Japan, salary negotiations are not an everyday conversation. In fact, they are rarely talked about at all. This is because the salaries in Japan are very low compared to their counterparts in the US and other countries. However, that doesn't mean that salary negotiation isn't happening. It just occurs without any discussion or negotiation. I didn’t know what to expect before coming to Japan, but I was given a salary comparable with the average Japanese salary. This is because I studied in Japan for only two years and I applied for scholarships to cover my living expenses.
