1. Do Ph.D. students in the Netherlands receive a stipend?

Answer. Yes, Ph.D. students are often considered as employees and assistant researchers, so in such cases, they receive a stipend or salary for their services during the Ph.D. program. The salary is around EUR 2000 to EUR 2800 per month depending upon the academic Ph.D. year.

9. Can I bring my family if I am studying in the Netherlands?

Answer. Yes. But there are many conditions to be fulfilled before bringing your family member to the Netherlands. You will need documents such as birth certificates and marriage certificates of your family member/spouse with legal stamps on it. Moreover, you also need to prove that you have enough income to fulfill the living conditions and that the family member would be living with you. The process takes time as it involves a lot of documents to be verified, so be careful with Netherlands bureaucracy rules.

 

 

10. How do I get a work permit to work in the Netherlands?

Answer. 1. Find a job in the Netherlands or apply for a residence permit

2. Your employer will apply for a single permit application to the IND. In case you don’t qualify for a single permit, employers will send two applications, one - temporary residence permit (MVV) or a combined residence and work permit (GVVA), two – a separate work permit application to the Dutch employment agency UWV.

4. IND will take the decision, advised by UWV, and give their decision within a period of 90 days.

5. The original work permit is sent to your employer. You can make an appointment and collect your residence permit from the IND.
