1. Does the TOEFL score matter?

Answer.

TOEFL scores matter if you are aiming for top universities and assistantships. However, TOEFL is an English language proficiency test and it may not affect your admission results in universities. But a minimal score to prove your English proficiency is expected in every university you apply.

2. How are the TOEFL scores calculated?

Answer.

The TOEFL test consists of 4 sections – Reading, Listening, Speaking, and Writing.

For each section you get a score from 0 – 30 which makes your total TOEFL score from 0 – 120. You’ll get one point/mark or more, depending on the type of questions, for every correct answer. The score measuring is different for each section along with different scoring scales.

3. When did TOEFL change?

From August 1, 2019, there is a significant change in the duration of the TOEFL test. The TOEFL test will be of 3 hours now, instead of 3 hours 30 minutes. Also, after this change, there will be fewer questions, lectures, and tasks in the Reading, Listening, and Speaking sections respectively.

The TOEFL internet-based test (IBT) was first taken by the students in 2005. In 1964, the first TOEFL test was offered to the students and after that, there  have been many changes and revised versions of the test which includes the introduction of TOEFL IBT in 2005.

5. When did the TOEFL pattern change?

You will receive your TOEFL scores in approximately 6 days after your test date. You will receive an email when the TOEFL scores are available and you can access these scores from your ETS account or official TOEFL application.

7. When is TOEFL conducted?

You can set your test date at the time of registration for the TOEFL test. By filling the test location, you can choose a date around three to five months prior to the last date of your application. This also gives you time for a retake of the test after 12 days of your first attempt.

8. When should TOEFL be taken?

You can take the TOEFL test three to five months prior to your university application deadline. However, there is no particular date on which you can take the test, so it is advised to keep a comfortable bracket for preparation as well as for the retake of the test. For international students, it is safe to take the TOEFL test 6 months before the application deadline.

9. When the TOEFL exam is conducted?
